Teams are built not hired

Many business owners make the mistake of thinking they can hire a great team and set them on autopilot. The reality is that you are going to have to search for and hire talent and build the talent into a productive and efficient team.

When hiring talent consider the following:

  • Are they teachable but not so passive that they will not make suggestions
  • Do they bring skills that are not already on your team; while it is always more comfortable to hire people who are like minded it will often open up new markets and ideas by stepping outside your comfort zone.
  • It is often more profitable to hire raw talent and train them than to hire experienced people. This does not mean only hire young people; there are many individuals that have a lot of talent but are being forced to reinvent their careers because technology and economic conditions have changed or eliminated their positions.
